Data Center Design and Management

Open System Sciences engineers have demonstrated expertise required to design and manage our clients’ most complex and critical data center infrastructures. We work with the leading hardware and software Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure full operational support is provided for all data center hardware equipment and software systems, including testing, installation, and upgrades. Typical requirements include configuration management, systems and network monitoring, systems and network auditing, problem determination, problem reporting, problem escalation, problem resolution, change control, version management, backup and recovery, capacity planning, preventive maintenance, performance tuning, security patching and other system enhancements.


Network Design and Management

For over 20 years, OSS has been a leader in the design, integration, implementation and ongoing management of multi-vendor local, metropolitan and wide area networks. We are a single-source solution for project management, pre-installation planning, procurement, integration, staging, installation, and start-up services. We have a sustained track record across numerous government agencies for maintaining LAN switching and routing infrastructures using VLANs and properly configured ports for workstations and servers; we ensure configurations are backed up on regular schedules to preclude emergencies due to device failure and/or replacement; network security is implemented according to DoD, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), or the appropriate agency guidelines; network devices are updated with approved firmware and software patches to maintain network stability and security; Network Access Control (NAC) is maintained to provide only authorized access to LAN users at their appropriate levels of access; and firewall configurations are maintained with appropriate security levels and rule sets.


Email (Exchange) Administration

OSS has implemented and upgraded several government and commercial E-mail (Exchange Server) environments. In addition to managing legacy Microsoft Exchange Server environments, we perform monitoring, performance tuning, and Global Address List synchronization and maintenance. Our engineers also configure and manage database size limits and disk space usage. We utilize tools such as Microsoft Exchange Management Console (EMC) to configure and update the Global Address List (GAL), create and manage mailboxes, assign quotas, and integrate with Active Directory to manage security and distribution groups. To optimize our clients e-mail environment, we also use tools such as Microsoft Exchange Health Analyzer to determine Exchange database health and overall Exchange performance.


Website Support and Administration

Open System Sciences provides web site support and administration for web servers and websites, including web programming and primary webmaster services. Other support includes performing web server maintenance tasks including the maintenance of virtual directories, configuration authentication, managing secure sockets layer (SSL) certificates, managing stop and start services, and optimizing site performance.


VTC Deployment and Maintenance

OSS Video Teleconferencing (VTC) Engineers provide on-site support and remote assistance to our clients, including VTC/briefing, scheduling, and coordination where support is typically run out of Video Operations Centers (VOC). We provide the planning, technical setup, and testing necessary to ensure scheduled events incur no unforeseen technical failures. In addition, our engineers design and support VTC operational life cycle planning and periodic systems maintenance, including the development of budget estimates, technical refresh upgrades for VTC equipment and systems, as well as the disposal of defective or obsolete equipment.


Tier I, II & III Help Desk

Open System Sciences has over 15 years of Help Desk experience at all levels, from simple Tier I User support, to larger Tier III efforts supporting over 17,000 network nodes located in over 70 countries. Typical 24 x 7 x 365 Service Level Agreements include: Wireless Security troubleshooting; adding and blocking devices within a two hour response time; technical support for Data Loss Prevention for privacy and security incidents on a four hour response timeline; providing vulnerability management support for scanning network devices and/or validating false positives in a four hour response window; supporting continuous monitoring and scanning for configuration compliance on a four hour response basis; and Intrusion Detection, notification, analysis, and response with a one hour response for Cat 1 incidents and two hour response for Cat 2 incidents.

In a Tier II and III level environment, we have been responsible for supporting government networks consisting of over 700 local users and several thousands of remote users. In addition to providing the maintenance and support for over 400 servers, and software support for over 700 workstations, we also supported the external storage and power infrastructure. We have designed and supported 24 x 7 x 365 network systems and access switch monitoring, as well as manned Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERT) necessary to expeditiously address system malfunctions or unauthorized access.
